Two-seat electric bikes spread, raising overlooked safety points
As electric bikes that can carry an adult passenger increase rapidly, calls are growing for separate safety standards for two-person riding. Analysts say riding with two people creates different physical conditions than normal use, requiring additional preparation as e-bikes expand beyond leisure into car-alternative transport. Key issues include manufacturer approval for passengers, total weight limits, braking performance, passenger kits, posture and coordination, bike setup and tire pressure, infrastructure constraints and checking local regulations.
