Naver-Dunamu merger hurdle eases as committee recommends amending enforcement decree
South Korea\'s Presidential Regulatory Reform Committee\'s growth subcommittee reviewed an enforcement decree revision to the Act on Reporting and Using Specified Financial Transaction Information on July 24 and recommended that the Financial Services Commission add an exception to fit-and-proper screening rules for major shareholders of virtual asset service providers. The recommendation could ease regulatory burdens raised during Naver\'s bid to acquire Dunamu. The revised law is set to take effect on Aug. 20.

Single-stock leverage ETF margin raised to 30 million won from July 31
South Korea will bring forward measures to raise the basic margin requirement for single-stock leveraged products, including leveraged ETFs linked to Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, from July 31. The Financial Services Commission will raise the requirement from 10 million won to 30 million won in cash for new trades or additional purchases. It will also restrict margin reductions by brokerages and tighten rules on recognising sale proceeds and substitute securities.

Korea to lower public procurement barriers for AI products, support fees for vulnerable groups
South Korea will prioritise AI products and services in public procurement and allow support for AI service fees for vulnerable groups. The science ministry said revisions to an enforcement decree under the AI Basic Act passed a Cabinet meeting on July 14 and will take effect on July 21. Verified AI products will receive procurement benefits from August, including eased contract requirements and scoring incentives. The scope of AI-vulnerable groups eligible for support will expand.
