Cable TV responsible for broadcast access for one-third of South Koreans, strong universal service role

He said cable TV provides low-cost live broadcasting and supports broadcast access for one-third of South Koreans, giving it a strong universal service character. Broadcast Media Communications Commission unveils AI production cases used for action scenes, subtitles and audio description

South Korea\'s Broadcast Media Communications Commission held a seminar in Seoul on Thursday with the Korea Radio Promotion Association to share AI use in broadcasting production and services. Speakers presented an AI-made action sequence for an SBS drama and generative AI use in an MBC variety show. Broadcasters also introduced AI subtitles and audio description for sports coverage, AI voice for radio news, and automation tools for video editing and graphics work.

Talks gather pace on law to institutionalise basic financial rights

Discussions are gaining pace in South Korea on enacting a Basic Financial Security Act to guarantee financial access for low-income and low-credit groups. A policy forum in parliament reviewed legal and policy tasks, outcomes of existing programmes, overseas systems and potential economic and social effects. Proposals call for expanding policy-based finance beyond funding to link counselling, debt adjustment, recovery, self-reliance and asset building through a one-stop support system.
