Used Chinese EVs pour into Europe as tariff detour
Used Chinese electric cars are emerging as a new competitor in Europe’s auto market. The European Union imposes high tariffs on new Chinese-made EVs, but used cars are excluded from additional tariffs, helping boost exports on low prices. Data from China EV Marketplace show used-car sales to EU customers rose 280 percent in January to September, while new-car sales fell 44 percent. The platform is shifting its focus to used vehicles.

Chinese carmakers overtake Japanese rivals in European quarterly sales for first time
Chinese automakers have overtaken Japanese rivals in Europe on a quarterly basis for the first time, with Chinese brands taking a 12.7 percent share of September new-car registrations versus 11.9 percent for Japanese brands. The figures reflect consumer registrations, with hybrids leading the rise. The EU has introduced extra tariffs on China-made battery electric vehicles and reached a tentative deal to cap hybrid imports at 350,000 a year. China is also cutting export VAT rebates for new-energy vehicles from 2027.
