Korean games hit console sales, as overseas acquisitions and in-house development pay off
Korean game companies are changing how they make and sell titles as PC and console releases deliver solid sales, moving away from mobile MMORPG and live-service domestic revenue models. Recent hits include Krafton’s Subnautica 2 and Pearl Abyss’ Crimson Desert, alongside Nexon-backed Arc Raiders. The industry is increasingly using overseas studio acquisitions, long development cycles on proprietary engines and Steam-led package sales, while facing rising AAA development costs and post-launch update demands.

Pearl Abyss\' Red Desert hits 5 million cumulative sales in 26 days
Pearl Abyss said on Tuesday that global cumulative sales of its game Red Desert reached 5 million copies. The company said it achieved the milestone 26 days after release. It said this was a faster pace than the five months it took Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, last year\'s Game of the Year winner at The Game Awards, to sell 5 million copies. ContentFlux data showed heavy Twitch and YouTube activity from March 20 to April 14.

Krafton opens preorders for three physical console editions of Hi-Fi Rush
Krafton said on Thursday it will begin preorders for physical console editions of rhythm action game Hi-Fi Rush. The preorder campaign will be conducted in cooperation with U.S. game package distributor Limited Run Games. The releases are split into three versions: Rhythm Edition, Smidge Edition and Project Armstrong Edition, with items ranging from the game disc and DLC costume packs to soundtrack CDs, storage boxes, a miniature guitar replica, an 8-inch plush and a hardcover artbook. The game will be released on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Preorders run from Jan. 17 to March 2 via Limited Run Games\' official website.
