Nexon is expanding Embark Studio's 'Arc Raiders' and 'The Finals' into film and TV content.

Nexon said on Monday it has signed a partnership with Chernin Entertainment, a film and TV drama production label under North Road Company, to produce video content based on the two games.

Under the collaboration, Chernin Entertainment will oversee planning for film and TV content, and Embark Studio's developers will also take part in the production process.

'Arc Raiders', one of the titles to be adapted, is a PvPvE survival action game set in a post-apocalyptic world dominated by mechanical lifeforms called Arc.

It recorded 700,000 concurrent users across all platforms within two weeks of its launch in October last year, and global cumulative sales surpassed 16 million units. It also won The Game Awards' best multiplayer game, the D.I.C.E. Awards' online game of the year, and the multiplayer category at the BAFTA Games Awards.

'The Finals' is a team-based first-person shooter game set in a fictional combat game show. It features destructible arenas and physics-based environmental changes rendered in real time on servers, and has logged more than 30 million cumulative users over three years since its release.

Nexon plans to expand the worlds and characters of the two games into film and TV to broaden content touchpoints beyond games.

Patrick Soderlund (패트릭 쇠더룬드), chairman of Nexon and CEO of Embark Studio, said the partnership is an important milestone in expanding Arc Raiders and The Finals into an organic transmedia experience. He said the development team will also work closely with Chernin Entertainment throughout the content production process.

David Ready (데이비드 레디), president of Chernin Entertainment's film division, said the two titles are global IP with the potential to grow into franchises spanning film and TV. He said the company will present a new form of content based on its film and TV production capabilities.
