Countries with high Bitcoin holdings share weak banking systems

El Salvador, Venezuela and Nigeria rank among countries where a high share of people have held Bitcoin, a survey-based Cornell University index found. The report said Bitcoin is used not just as a speculative asset but as a practical workaround for unstable currencies and limited access to banking and dollars. The study also found many respondents struggled to explain Bitcoin’s protocol, and 58 percent did not know its supply is capped at 21 million.
