Huawei to spend up to 80 billion yuan on self-driving computing over five years

Huawei will invest up to 80 billion yuan over the next five years to expand computing capacity needed to train and test self-driving cars. The spending aims to improve reliability of vehicles using its Qiankun ADS advanced driver-assistance system and to add more customers. An executive said Huawei plans to allocate 18 billion yuan to autonomous driving R&D in 2026. Qiankun ADS has surpassed 10 billion km in cumulative autonomous driving distance.

Humble Robotics unveils driverless Level 4 electric Class 8 \'Humble Hauler\'

Humble Robotics has unveiled the Humble Hauler, an electric autonomous freight platform that removes the driver’s seat entirely. The Class 8 platform targets closed or controlled logistics environments such as warehouses, rail yards and ports, focusing on repetitive hub-to-hub moves rather than long-haul highways. The modular design can be lengthened or shortened and supports multiple configurations. The company is running pilots with logistics and supply-chain firms and raised $24 million in seed funding led by Eclipse.

Snowflake expands open data architecture to build AI environment without data movement

Snowflake on Tuesday announced a \"data autonomy\" strategy to strengthen interoperability aimed at minimising data movement, simplifying governance and improving enterprise AI systems\' access to data. The company is expanding support for Apache Iceberg version 3, including new data types and features, and boosting governance portability using Apache Polaris. The update also includes pg_lake, an open-source PostgreSQL extension, and support for new standards such as OpenLineage and Open Semantic Interchange.
