Baeh Kyung-hoon says telecoms must transform into AI companies as top 3 expand investment
SK Telecom, KT and LG Uplus will work with the government to expand next-generation network investment to respond to the AI era and form a public-private consultative body to discuss investment and telecoms regulatory improvements. Deputy Prime Minister and Science Minister Baeh Kyung-hoon said telecoms should transform into AI infrastructure and platform companies. The ministry plans a comprehensive policy package, while the carriers will expand membership benefits and provide temporary plan perks for youth and vulnerable groups.

South Korea opens technical support centre to boost adoption of domestic AI semiconductors
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT opened a dedicated centre to support the adoption and use of domestically made AI semiconductors. The ministry held an opening ceremony on Tuesday at the Korea Association for ICT Promotion in Seoul. The K-AI Semiconductor Technical Support Center will provide adoption consultations, technical and sector-specific consulting, testing and verification support links, software optimisation and technical support, promotion of best-use cases, and networking between demand and supply firms.

Government steps up drive for physical AI full stack localisation
The government plans to localise physical AI full stack technology and expand its applications to manufacturing, agriculture, defence and caregiving. The Ministry of Science and ICT unveiled a strategy to build a cross-government data collection and use system and develop key technologies such as physical AI foundation models and world models. It also plans to develop specialised devices, networks, security and AI chip-based computing platforms, and to support investment, talent and standards and certification systems.
