Big Tech researchers urge policy oversight as AI automates AI research
Research leaders from OpenAI, Anthropic, Meta and Microsoft have asked policymakers to examine how far companies have automated AI research, the Wall Street Journal reported on Sept. 28. In a paper released that day, the authors warned automation could trigger an \"intelligence explosion\" and compress years of progress into months. They cited self-improving AI efforts and recent agent incidents, and urged faster assessment and international measures to prevent risks from high-performance AI.

Weekley adds agents and personalisation to Owllo local AI, expands to hardware
Weekley is adding features such as agents, skills and natural-language photo search to its local AI platform Owllo and widening its service scope by linking it with its e-paper display hardware, Paper. Owllo lets users run open-weight large language models on a personal computer without having to install models or configure terminals and API keys. The platform uses local and cloud AI together depending on the task, calling external cloud AI via API with user consent when needed.

Military life in one app: \'Jangbyeong e-um\' to launch full service in October
South Korea\'s National Information Society Agency (NIA) and the Ministry of National Defense said they will launch the full service of \'Jangbyeong e-um\' in October. Built on a private-sector cloud, it integrates services previously spread across 46 systems into a single platform covering conscription assessment, personnel and welfare services during service, and reserve duty after discharge. It also introduces a mobile military ID and will add 14 services including an AI chatbot.
