Lawson to test stablecoin payments at convenience stores with JPYC from August
Japan\'s convenience store chain Lawson will introduce payments using yen-pegged stablecoin JPYC at stores from August. A pilot is set for early August at a Lawson store operated by telecoms company KDDI, using a smartphone wallet barcode scanned by a POS terminal. Lawson plans to check POS integration and payment time. KDDI has a capital and business tie-up with wallet firm HashPort, which supports the trial.

SoftBank to enter U.S. AI cloud computing market with SB Neo launch
SoftBank Group and its telecommunications unit SoftBank will start a neo cloud business from the next fiscal year to rent AI computing resources to U.S. companies, Bloomberg News reported. The two companies will establish SB Neo in July to supply AI chips and cloud services to large firms, including hyperscalers. SoftBank plans to raise data centre capacity to 10 gigawatts by around 2030, and SoftBank will hold 51 percent of SB Neo.

South Korea, Japan to coordinate on WRC-27, discuss 6G and LEO satellite communications
South Korea and Japan are sharing next-generation spectrum policies, including 6G and low Earth orbit satellite communications, and stepping up cooperation for the 2027 World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC-27). South Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT held the seventh Korea-Japan Radio Bureau Directors’ Meeting with Japan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications in Seoul on Tuesday. Officials and industry, academia and research representatives also agreed to continue information sharing and cooperation between neighboring countries.
