Onnuri gift certificates limited to affiliates with under 3 billion won in annual sales under draft rules
South Korea plans to limit the use of Onnuri gift certificates to affiliated small and medium-sized merchants with annual sales of 3 billion won or less. The SME ministry also proposed tougher penalties for illegal distribution, including fines of up to three times illicit gains. Health and veterinary services and legal, accounting and tax services would be barred from registration, while pharmacies remain allowed. The ministry will collect opinions through May 8.

iM Bank backs safety net for disaster-vulnerable groups in North Gyeongsang
iM Bank said on Thursday it held a donation ceremony at the North Gyeongsang provincial government complex with the province and the Gyeongbuk branch of the Korean Red Cross to build a cooperation system for supporting vulnerable groups and preparing for disasters. The 80 million won donation will be used for relief activities across the province, including producing disaster-relief vehicles, providing emergency supplies and running recovery support programmes for older people.

Shinhan Financial launches Lunar New Year sharing campaign across group
Shinhan Financial Group said on Feb. 10 it will run a Lunar New Year campaign through Feb. 11 with about 2,000 employees across the group taking part. Staff will use lunch breaks to buy supplies at nearby traditional markets for vulnerable people while supporting small merchants. Employees plan to deliver gift kits worth 100 million won, bought with Onnuri gift certificates, to about 2,000 people who need care.
