Samsung Electronics is offering a customer benefit that returns 20 percent of the purchase amount in Onnuri gift certificates. Samsung Electronics said on Thursday it will hold the “With the People, Samsung Electronics Appreciation Festival” for four weeks starting on June 8.
During the event, customers who buy Samsung Electronics products will receive digital Onnuri gift certificates worth 20 percent of the purchase amount. The certificates can be used like cash at traditional markets nationwide and at small businesses in local alleyways. The company said it chose Onnuri gift certificates instead of price discounts to link customer benefits to revitalising local economies. The total payout over four weeks is estimated at 400 billion won.
Uniformed public officials, including military, police, firefighters and correctional officers, will receive a 30 percent benefit. The programme covers more than 700,000 people, including about 500,000 active-duty service members and civilian military employees, about 131,000 police officers, about 66,000 firefighters and about 16,000 correctional officers. The event will be held on the online “Samsung Electronics Family Mall.” A Samsung Electronics official said, “The dedication and sacrifice of ‘K-heroes’ made South Korea the safest country in the world, and Samsung Electronics was also able to achieve strong results and growth thanks to this.”
The event is the first implementation measure under Samsung Electronics’ pledge, announced immediately after a labour-management agreement on May 27, to contribute 5 trillion won to society over five years. The company said it is discussing additional measures with its board and Compliance Oversight Committee, including strengthening industrial ecosystem competitiveness through support for suppliers, expanding inclusive finance for vulnerable groups with limited access to financial services, and fostering talent in AI and strengthening industry-academia cooperation.
