Bae Gyeong-hun calls for AI as national growth engine, presents Korea strategy at G20
Bae Gyeong-hun (배경훈), South Korea’s deputy prime minister and science minister, shared Seoul’s policy direction to foster AI as a driver of national innovation and economic growth at a G20 innovation ministers’ meeting. The ministry said Bae attended as South Korea’s lead representative in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. He outlined expanded basic research investment, steps to streamline R&D, and initiatives including the SEED and K-Moonshot projects, as well as plans to broaden AI use and train talent.

South Korea, U.S. expand cooperation in nuclear, high-energy fields, set up bilateral quantum panel
South Korea and the United States will expand cooperation in nuclear and high-energy physics, including joint research using major facilities, AI and quantum computing, South Korea\'s science ministry said. The two countries signed a statement of intent and plan to set up a bilateral quantum joint cooperation committee to support implementation. South Korea also reviewed progress on a technology prosperity memorandum and attended the opening of a Boston hub to support commercialisation of advanced bio technologies.

CES 2026 draws 148,000 attendees, largest since pandemic
CES 2026 wrapped up its four-day run in Las Vegas, drawing about 148,000 attendees from around the world, its biggest turnout since the pandemic. The event hosted about 6,900 global media representatives, 4,100 exhibitors and roughly 1,200 startups. Organisers said more than 55,000 attendees came from overseas. The programme included over 400 conference sessions, more than 1,300 speakers and over 200 government officials.
