Tesla Model S heads for phase-out after 14 years
Tesla is moving to effectively wrap up production of its flagship electric sedan, the Model S, ending a 14-year run. The Model S is seen as more than a luxury EV, changing consumer expectations for electric cars and the wider auto market. Launched in 2012 with an 85 kWh battery and an EPA range of up to 265 miles, it highlighted long-distance EV capability despite limited charging infrastructure at the time.

EVs post highest five-year depreciation at 57 percent; hybrids differ
Electric vehicles depreciate much faster than internal combustion cars, with a five-year average value loss of 57.2 percent, InsideEV reported, citing iSeeCars research. That compares with 41.8 percent for all cars. Hybrids had the lowest five-year depreciation at 35.4 percent. EVs made up half of the 10 fastest-depreciating models and none of the 25 slowest. Some models, including the Volkswagen ID.4 and Nissan Leaf, showed steeper declines.

Uber to launch robotaxi service in Tokyo this year with Wayve and Nissan
Uber will start a robotaxi service in Tokyo in 2026 with British AI autonomous driving software company Wayve and Japanese automaker Nissan, TechCrunch reported on March 12. Wayve recently completed a $1.2 billion fundraising round and plans to deploy its software in Nissan Leaf vehicles operating on Uber’s platform. Wayve is also preparing a London robotaxi service and plans to apply its technology to vehicles slated for commercialization in 2027.
