MSIT announces winners of second special achievement bonus awards
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT selected 4 winners for the second Special Achievement Bonus Awards and held a ceremony the previous day, it said on May 19. The winners were chosen in two areas: restoring the basic research ecosystem and building a system to spread outcomes, and creating an AI-friendly Korean-style regulatory environment for data use. The ministry also expanded eligibility to include staff seconded to other agencies.

KB Kookmin Bank to run heatwave shelters through Sept, open branches nationwide
KB Kookmin Bank will open its branches nationwide as shelters to help the public get through summer safely. The bank said on May 15 it will operate heatwave and cold wave shelters in branches under an agreement signed last month with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. Anyone can use the shelters regardless of whether they are customers. Summer shelters run from May 15 to Sept. 30.

Kakao\'s AI national secretary adds voice certificate issuance, public facility bookings
Kakao said on May 14 it has added voice functions to its AI national secretary pilot service and upgraded it so users can complete public facility bookings within KakaoTalk. The conversational AI agent, launched in March with South Korea\'s Ministry of the Interior and Safety, can be used through the KakaoTalk channel \'Gubbi\' without installing a separate app. Users can issue electronic certificates and book facilities by voice. Kakao also added an icon in the app\'s More tab.
