KT said on Oct. 5 it took part in the '2026 READY Korea wildfire extinguishing integrated drill' held in Chilgok, North Gyeongsang Province, hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, and checked its communications service support system in a large wildfire situation.
KT, the only telecom operator to participate on site, conducted a comprehensive check of its response system to provide communications services in disasters and restore them quickly, as an operator of the disaster safety communications network.
It assumed a situation in which communications facilities were damaged by a wildfire, activated an emergency contact network, and identified whether disruptions occurred and the scope of their impact. It ran both disaster safety communications network mobile base station vehicles and commercial network mobile base station vehicles at the same time to verify the national disaster-response communications system.
The company said it supported agencies dispatched to the site so that the quality of the disaster safety communications network could be maintained, provided emergency communications for residents in affected areas, and attempted to restore communications services.
Hwang Kyung-hee (황경희), head of KT's Eastern NW Operations Headquarters in the network division, said swift on-site response and strong restoration capabilities are most important to provide stable communications services even in disasters. He said KT will continue to strengthen its network response capabilities so the public does not face inconvenience in using communications when disasters occur, based on cooperation with related agencies.
