Apple Mac mini effectively sees price rise from $599 to $799

Apple has raised the starting price of its Mac mini from $599 to $799 by removing the $599 256GB base model from its website, leaving the 512GB version as the cheapest option. The 512GB model price has not increased, but the entry price is now $200 higher. In South Korea, the lowest-priced online option is a 1.19 million won model with an M4 chip, 16GB RAM and 512GB storage.

Apple Mac sales surprise, driven by demand to run local AI models

Apple’s Mac revenue beat market expectations in its fiscal second quarter ended March 28, helped by demand to run local AI models, the company said. Mac sales rose 6% from a year earlier to $8.4 billion, topping Wall Street estimates in the low $8 billion range, while total revenue increased 17% to $111.2 billion. CEO Tim Cook said demand for the new MacBook Neo exceeded expectations and that Mac mini and Mac Studio recently sold out.

Ha Yong-ho (하용호), chief data officer at Dable, said in the AI era people should hand execution to AI agents and focus on judgment, choice, taste and responsibility. He said he runs multiple agents that transcribe meetings, integrate tools and build an AI persona to support decisions, at a monthly cost of about 400,000 won. Ha said real AI transformation requires systems designed for AI use, and predicted broader agent adoption within five years.
