Apple may release a fully revamped next-generation MacBook Pro as early as this autumn, according to a report.

NineToFiveMac reported on Wednesday that the market is speculating the product could launch under the name “MacBook Ultra”.

The device is being discussed as a major overhaul of the existing MacBook Pro. The outlet reported Apple has been preparing a new design that includes an OLED display, a touchscreen and Dynamic Island. The final product name has not been decided, but the scale of hardware changes is expected to be large.

Autumn is being mentioned first as the likely timing. Mark Gurman said via Bloomberg that Apple has often unveiled new Mac products in late October, and that the MacBook Ultra also appears to be targeting that window. He also pointed to the fact that the device is internally running macOS 27.1 as a sign that boosts expectations for an autumn launch.

But there are clear variables. Ongoing instability in memory supply is a key one. The outlet said memory shortages have recently lengthened delivery delays for the Mac mini, Mac Studio and even the MacBook Air. If Apple fails to secure parts in time for a large-scale new laptop release, the schedule could slip to early 2027.

Market attention is focused less on whether it launches and more on how far Apple takes the overhaul. If OLED and touch input are added, the user experience of the MacBook lineup itself could change. If Dynamic Island is also applied, it could be taken as a change that more tightly links interface strategy between the Mac and the iPhone.

Apple has repeatedly seen product plans change over the past year due to external factors. This time as well, an internal target timing does not immediately mean a confirmed release date. Gurman also mentioned that Apple’s plans can change for various reasons outside its control.

In this situation, there are two points to watch. One is whether Apple can actually meet a late-October unveiling schedule. The other is whether the memory supply problem eases within the second half of the year so it does not affect mass production and shipment schedules for the new MacBook. If Apple secures stable parts supply, the chances of an autumn launch remain alive, but if supply disruptions continue, the next-generation MacBook overhaul could roll into next year.
