AI search startups keep coming despite Google and ChatGPT
As Google announces a sweeping overhaul of its search with AI, startups aiming at the same market are continuing to raise large sums, TechCrunch reported, citing Bloomberg. Andreessen Horowitz-backed Exa Labs raised $250 million at a $2.5 billion valuation. Tavily, TinyFish and Parallel Web Systems are also entering the space. Parallel, led by former Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal, raised $100 million at $2 billion.

Polymarket has priced in a 67 percent chance that U.S. technology industry layoffs in 2026 will be larger than in 2025. The contract will be decided by June 2027 based on U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics information-sector employment data, with trading ending on Feb. 28, 2027. Market anxiety has been fueled by Meta’s plan to eliminate about 8,000 jobs on May 20 and freeze hiring for 6,000 vacancies.

Google plans to hire hundreds of forward deployed engineers to help companies adopt its enterprise AI products, The Information reported. Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian (토마스 쿠리안) said a new FDE team will be created within Google Cloud, without disclosing hiring numbers. The move comes as Big Tech expands technical staff for AI deployments. The Information said the hiring shows companies still struggle with real-world AI implementation despite layoffs elsewhere.
