Ryan Roslansky (라이언 로슬란스키), who has led Office and Teams at Microsoft, is leaving the company. Microsoft reorganised its Office and Teams group into a Copilot-centred structure to coincide with his departure.

On Oct. 1, local time, IT outlet The Verge reported that Roslansky will leave the company at the end of this year after about 18 years at LinkedIn and Microsoft. He will remain an adviser to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella (사티아 나델라) through year-end to support the organisational transition. Roslansky cited his work location as the reason for leaving. He said he would need to be based full time at the Redmond headquarters to lead the next step properly, but his family and life are rooted in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Roslansky became CEO of LinkedIn in 2020 and took charge of Microsoft Office last year. After handing the LinkedIn CEO role to Dan Shapero (댄 샤페로) in April, he took responsibility for the Teams organisation in May and led Microsoft’s Work Experiences Group.

The organisation chart will change again with Roslansky’s departure. The Office and Teams-related organisation will move into the Copilot, Agent and Platform, or CAP, organisation led by Charles Lamanna (찰스 라만나). Microsoft Chief Design Officer Jon Friedman (존 프리드먼) will report to Copilot head Jacob Andreou (제이컵 안드레우). LinkedIn will keep the Shapero CEO structure, and Shapero will report directly to Nadella going forward.

The overhaul took place as Microsoft works to develop Copilot into an operating system for work. The company is pursuing a strategy to integrate Office into Copilot and embed Copilot across Office overall.

Roslansky recently referred to fully AI-written work documents as a “doom loop”. He said new ideas could disappear in a process where AI creates documents and another person uses AI to summarise them again. Roslansky stressed that rather than rejecting AI itself, it should be used in a way that adds people’s unique experiences and perspectives.

The personnel changes are the second major Office reorganisation this year, following the retirement of former Microsoft vice president Rajesh Jha (라지시 자). A shift is becoming clearer as Microsoft reorganises its work software organisation around Copilot and AI agents rather than its existing product-by-product structure.
