Broadcom CEO warns of \'casino-like\' AI investing even as it backs major AI chip financing

Broadcom Chief Executive Hock Tan warned that AI-related investing is becoming like casino gambling, while the company is also supporting large-scale financing for customers to buy AI chips. His remarks were followed by a broad decline in Asian semiconductor stocks. Tan said AI profitability cannot be judged by revenue growth alone, citing OpenAI’s annualised revenue and high training costs. Broadcom forecasts sharp AI chip revenue growth and is pursuing funding support for OpenAI and Anthropic.

Semifive signs 70.3 billion won contract to develop AI inference accelerator with U.S. fabless firm

Semifive said on Monday it signed a contract with a U.S. AI fabless company to develop a next-generation AI inference accelerator. The deal is worth about 70.3 billion won ($52 million) and marks its first spec handoff project secured in the North American market. The company said it was its largest single contract and outlined plans for tape-out in the first half of 2027 and mass production from 2028.

Qualcomm applied a new package design to the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 by moving memory to the side and creating a new path to dissipate heat, aiming to sustain high burst performance longer in top-end smartphones. Chris Patrick (크리스 패트릭) said keeping the SoC cool helps it stay at maximum performance longer. Qualcomm said handset makers may need minor cooling design changes and it is reviewing other packaging approaches.
