Six bidders including SKT, KT and Kakao join Korea\'s AI-for-all tender, selection due end-August

Six companies or consortia, including SK Telecom, Kakao and KT, have entered a tender for the South Korean government\'s AI public service project dubbed AI for All. The Ministry of Science and ICT said on Aug. 18 it received six proposals. Lead organisations are SKT, MKD, ESTsoft, Xenon, Kakao and KT. The ministry plans to select operators by end-August and launch the service within the year after an agreement and beta service.

LG Uplus adds Live TV+ to new Mercedes-Benz S-Class in South Korea

LG Uplus said on Aug. 18 it will install its self-developed real-time video channel service, Live TV+, in Mercedes-Benz Korea’s new “The New S-Class.” LG Uplus will act as the carmaker’s official software partner, handling service development, content supply and operations. The service offers 28 broadcast channels without separate account authentication and delivers content over in-vehicle wireless communications rather than DMB. It also supports different channels on multiple in-car displays.

LG Uplus expands AlDot plans bundling FacePay, draws interest from people in their 20s and 30s

LG Uplus is expanding promotions for lifestyle-focused partner mobile plans with Toss Mobile. The company said it is selling five Toss Mobile budget mobile plans on its AlDot platform that combine benefits tied to the FacePay facial-recognition payment service. Among subscribers to the FacePay-linked plans launched on Aug. 3, people in their 20s and 30s accounted for 56 percent. Plans are offered at 8,000 to 16,000 won a month for seven months, with coupons provided for up to 24 months.
