KT, SK Broadband and LG Uplus received corrective orders and fines from the Broadcast Media Telecommunications Commission for restricting online sign-ups for standalone internet protocol TV (IPTV) products.

The commission said on Tuesday it voted at its 37th plenary meeting to impose corrective orders and fines on the three IPTV companies for violating prohibited acts under the IPTV law.

The commission said the operators refused to allow customers to sign up online for standalone IPTV products during the subscription process.

The commission ordered them to improve their work procedures. It fined KT 14,122,124 won, SKB 31,078,155 won and LG Uplus 3,803,653 won, respectively.

The meeting also received a report on a draft rule to establish and operate expert committees and special committees under the commission.

The draft sets out detailed provisions needed to establish and operate expert and special committees so they can review matters for deliberation and resolution in advance and efficiently carry out delegated tasks. Whether to set up the committees, along with their specific names and areas, will be decided later through the commission's discussions and resolutions.

The meeting also received a report on draft amendments to rules related to the acting chairman. The commission prepared an amendment, in line with a mandate under its establishing law, to limit the scope of the acting chairman under meeting operation rules to meeting-related matters and to revise wording in some provisions.

It also received a report on a draft rule on the acting chairman that sets out the scope and order of acting duties to prevent any gap in the performance of the chairman's duties.
