EU digital battery passport mandate next year raises worries for small suppliers in South Korea
South Korea\'s battery supply chain is facing a test as the European Union\'s digital battery passport mandate approaches next year. Major cell makers have set up response systems, but many small materials suppliers lack IT systems and specialist staff to measure carbon emissions. Carbon data for the passport requires lifecycle assessment information from multiple tiers of suppliers. Industry groups say small and mid-sized firms lack expertise, budget and manpower, widening gaps with large companies.

KITECH develops sulfide solid electrolyte material for all-solid-state batteries
The Korea Institute of Industrial Technology said on Tuesday it has developed a sulfide-based solid electrolyte material for all-solid-state batteries that improves both ionic conductivity and air stability. A research team led by senior researcher Kim Tae-hyo said the new material raised ionic conductivity 77-fold and reduced toxic hydrogen sulfide generation by 40 percent versus existing material. It also improved stability with lithium metal and boosted initial discharge capacity in a test cell.
