South Korea's Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy said on Thursday it will hold a total of 4 rounds of work briefings with public agencies under its oversight and related agencies. Minister Kim Jeonggwan will chair the sessions and receive reports from each agency head. The vice minister, senior officials, working-level staff and employees from each agency will attend to discuss key issues.

The in-person briefings with public and related agencies are follow-up steps to the 2026 presidential work briefing held recently. Through the briefings, the ministry will check each agency's key tasks and implementation plans to align with government policy direction and state tasks. It also plans to closely review the social responsibilities of public agencies, including disaster and safety management, communication with the public, regional economic revitalisation and shared growth cooperation.

The first briefing, held on Thursday in the main conference room of the Korea Trade Insurance Corp, covered Korea Gas Corp, Korea Gas Technology Corp, Korea Gas Safety Corp, Korea Electric Power Corp and Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power. In the gas sector, participants discussed stable supply and demand management for natural gas, support for a demonstration project to localise LNG cargo containment systems, and ways to strengthen safety management using AI. In the nuclear export sector, they focused discussions on cooperation with key countries such as Vietnam and the Czech Republic, and plans for joint entry with the United Arab Emirates into nuclear power markets in third countries.

The second briefing, scheduled for Friday, will cover the Korea Institute for Trade-Related Security, the Korea Testing Laboratory, the Product Safety Management Agency, the Korean Standards Association, the Korea Association for Industrial Technology Protection and the Korea Productivity Center. It plans to discuss responses to export controls and blocking illegal exports, securing testing and certification capabilities for advanced industries, preventing technology leaks and strengthening security capabilities, and developing AI reliability certification.

The third and fourth briefings will be held on Sunday at the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The third session will cover industrial public agencies, including the Korea Industrial Complex Corp, the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology and the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology Planning and Evaluation. It will focus on checks such as RE100 industrial complexes and regional growth, and the AI transformation (AX) of manufacturing. The Korea Institute of Design Promotion, the Korea Institute of Ceramic Engineering and Technology, the Korea Institute for Robot Industry Advancement and the Korea Carbon Industry Promotion Agency will also attend.

The fourth session will cover resource-sector public agencies, including the Korea National Oil Corp, the Korea Mine Rehabilitation and Mineral Resources Corp and Korea Coal Corp, as well as export-sector public agencies including KOTRA and the Korea Trade Insurance Corp. Kangwon Land and the Korea Petroleum Quality & Distribution Authority will also attend. It will be broadcast live on KTV and will review issues directly linked to resource security and economic revitalisation, including improving financial soundness, securing critical minerals such as rare earths, and ways to achieve annual exports of at least $700 billion for a second straight year.

Kim said, "If last year we concentrated our capabilities on resolving external uncertainties such as tariff negotiations, this year is the time to create clear results that the public and companies can feel," adding, "The ministry and public agencies must go beyond simply dividing roles and create results with speed as one team, and be able to explain those results to the public."
