Science ministry launches next-generation engineer training program to support industry-university research
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity said they will launch a new Next-Generation Engineer Training Program this year. The program will support joint research between undergraduates and industry mentors, along with mentoring and networking. The ministry will select 2 consortia of multiple universities and 1 support group to back 400 students this year with a total budget of 2 billion won.

Vice minister Gu Hyeok-chae vows policy innovation to make science culture accessible to all
Gu Hyeok-chae (구혁채), first vice minister of South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT, pledged to innovate science culture policy to improve public access. The ministry held the 2026 Korea Science Festival with the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity and the National Research Foundation of Korea at KINTEX in Ilsan, integrated with the Korea Science and Technology Exhibition. Events included mentoring for students and an AI co-scientist challenge awarding 16 teams.

South Korea science ministry holds public vote on Korea science festival programs
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity will hold a public vote from April 20 to 22 to select the most anticipated programmes ahead of the opening of the \'2026 Korea Science Festival with Korea Science and Technology Fair\'. The festival runs April 24 to 26 at KINTEX, with 117 organisations operating 319 programmes, including AI-related exhibits and hands-on activities.
