Broadcasting media communications committee audit calls for stronger user protection and sanctions on platforms

At a parliamentary audit of South Korea’s Broadcasting Media Communications Committee, lawmakers called for stronger user protection responsibilities and tougher sanctions for platforms ranging from Coupang and Kakao to Google, Apple and X. Issues included youth protection on social media, so-called hijacking ads, in-app payment enforcement and blocking illegal and harmful content. The committee chief said investigations were completed in some cases and further reviews could lead to legal and institutional changes.

Korea Postal Service issues special edition marking 80th anniversary of Post Office and People magazine

The Ministry of Science and ICT\'s Korea Postal Service said on Sept. 29 it published a special commemorative edition of its in-house magazine, Post Office and People, marking its 80th anniversary. The September-October issue is No. 772. The magazine began in 1946 under the title Postal Culture and has changed titles several times before adopting its current name in 2017. It is also distributed via a KakaoTalk channel.

Naver, Kakao expand holiday services for Chuseok hospitals, parking

Naver and Kakao are expanding services for the Chuseok holiday, offering information on hospitals, pharmacies, animal hospitals and free public parking through search and map functions. They are also strengthening travel and transport information, including airport waiting times and transit and road conditions. Naver will offer short-form videos and promotions for its Clip, Webtoon and Series services. Kakao will run gift, booking and discount promotions and send phishing-prevention messages to about 27 million people.
