Kakao said on Tuesday it carried out the sixth regular KakaoTalk update, adding various artificial intelligence-based features aimed at user convenience.

The update focuses on linking everyday communication and AI experiences seamlessly across mobile and personal PC environments. It also advanced a daily-life AI ecosystem within KakaoTalk that goes beyond simple messaging, allowing content summaries, regeneration and information searches to be completed on the platform.

KakaoTalk first added a message summary function in chatrooms to help users quickly grasp unread messages. Users can press the "Chat Summary" button inside a chatroom to see key points of accumulated messages at a glance. This allows users to review the main flow and join the conversation right away even in chatrooms they access after a long time.

It also expanded the availability of "ChatGPT for Kakao" to the KakaoTalk PC version. Conversation flow used on mobile continues on PC without re-entering settings or repeating questions. The function can be used through the "ChatGPT" chip at the top of the chat tab.

KakaoTalk also introduced a new feature that regenerates photos shared in chatrooms using "ChatGPT Image 2.0". Users select an image in a chatroom, tap "Create with AI" at the top right, and apply a template such as "Anime Style" or "Colored Pencil Drawing". Without saving the photo separately, users can easily turn images shared in chats into new forms such as cartoons and illustrations, and use them when registering new profile posts.

KakaoTalk improved open chat by applying a chatbot (beta) so users can check necessary information without leaving the chatroom. When a host selects and invites a chatbot for use in an open chatroom, users can ask about topics such as weather and stock prices without moving to a separate page and continue the conversation.

KakaoTalk also added a feature allowing users to delete messages within 24 hours after sending them in KakaoTalk channel chats. The new features apply from KakaoTalk version v26.6.0 and above.

A Kakao official said the company expanded the user experience so people can use AI more easily and conveniently across KakaoTalk's various chat environments. The official added Kakao will continue upgrading the service so everyday communication and AI experiences can connect naturally based on user feedback.
