MSIT to strengthen deep tech startup ecosystem led by science and technology institutes
South Korea will expand support for four science and technology institutes and speed up efforts to foster regional deep tech startup ecosystems. The Ministry of Science and ICT held a meeting at KAIST with startup centers from KAIST, GIST, DGIST and UNIST. The government raised this year’s deep tech startup support budget for the four institutes to 39.8 billion won and widened programs to include regional prospective founders and early-stage startups. It will also ease leave limits for student and faculty entrepreneurs from September.

Science ministry launches POSTECH quantum global partnership lead center
South Korea has set up an international joint research hub for quantum technology at Pohang University of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Science and ICT said. The POSTECH Quantum Global Partnership Lead Center aims to develop large-scale quantum entanglement generation and control by linking different quantum platforms. The project runs from July 2025 to December 2029 with funding of 22.3 billion won. Researchers from domestic and overseas institutions attended the opening event.

Park In-gyu holds town hall meeting on key R&D policies
Park In-gyu (박인규), head of the Ministry of Science and ICT\'s Office of Science and Technology Innovation, attended a town hall meeting at the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology on May 8 to share the government\'s science and technology policy direction. The event was the fourth and final stop in a series of regional meetings. About 100 participants, including academics, students, researchers and industry, discussed institutional improvements and policy needs.
