U.S. SEC, CFTC overhaul crypto rules; former officials warn of duplicative regulation

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission are moving to refine rules on crypto derivatives and custody, while former senior officials have raised concerns. The agencies are working on definitions and jurisdictional boundaries for new products such as swaps and perpetual futures as a broader “Clarity” bill remains pending in Congress. The SEC has also begun revising custody rules and opened public comment on its “Reg Crypto” proposal.
