Charles Hoskinson (찰스 호스킨슨), known as the founder of Cardano, said the cryptocurrency industry can survive under any administration and would endure under the Trump administration.

On Aug. 18 (local time), blockchain outlet The Crypto Basic reported that Hoskinson argued that Washington political power cannot decide the long-term direction of bitcoin and cryptocurrencies.

In responding to a question from SkyBridge CEO Anthony Scaramucci, Hoskinson said, "The crypto industry survived the Biden administration," and "It will be fine under the Trump administration." He reaffirmed his long-held view that the crypto market should not rely excessively on a particular president or party.

He said governments can affect the regulatory environment, market conditions and the pace of institutional adoption, but cannot easily eliminate an industry built on decentralized technology. During the Biden administration, the crypto sector faced strong regulatory pressure under former U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission chairman Gary Gensler, but development continued on major blockchain networks including bitcoin and Cardano.

Hoskinson has publicly drawn a line on some parts of U.S. President Donald Trump's digital-asset policy. He pointed to the launch of the Trump memecoin 'TRUMP' as an example, saying crypto could shift from a bipartisan agenda into a partisan political tool. He said if that trend continues, the bipartisan support base for comprehensive crypto legislation could weaken.

He has also been critical of plans to expand the U.S. government's crypto reserve assets. A 2025 proposal mentioned ethereum, XRP, Solana and Cardano alongside bitcoin as potential reserve assets, but Hoskinson said the government should not directly pick "winners and losers" among specific cryptocurrencies. He said it would be better for Washington to build a bitcoin-centered reserve using digital assets the government has already seized, rather than selecting specific altcoins.

That concern also intersects with congressional debate. Hoskinson said Trump's active involvement in crypto could make the industry appear too closely aligned with one party. He warned that could weaken bipartisan momentum around the 'Clarity Act.' The bill failed to make progress in the Senate before the August 2026 recess, and many Democratic lawmakers also opposed pushing it forward.

Hoskinson's core message is that regulation and politics can affect the pace of the industry's growth but cannot determine crypto's survival itself. He believes decentralized networks will continue to evolve over the long term even if administrations and policies change.

"No, we survived Biden. We will survive Trump. Crypto is here to thrive"
