Game rating board blocks 1,450 illegal private servers in first half
South Korea\'s Game Rating and Administration Committee said on Aug. 3 it blocked 1,450 illegal private servers in the first half of this year. It said 32,930, or 70.7 percent, of its 46,531 administrative actions in the period focused on eradicating illegal private servers and illegal programs. Requests for investigations rose to 49, up 14 cases from a year earlier, it said.

A forum of game industry experts said a planned full revision of South Korea\'s Game Industry Promotion Act should shift the system from regulation to promoting game culture and the industry. Participants also called for more detailed safeguards on web-board game rules, identity verification and legal guardian consent, and how a damage redress centre is run. They raised concerns about defining game over-immersion and the scope and expertise of the redress centre.
