Samsung\'s three new foldables get thinner, with distinct designs

Samsung Electronics is pushing design competition with three new foldable smartphones, differentiating the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Flip8 by use case. The Fold8 Ultra features an 8-inch display and a thin body aimed at large-screen use with phone-like handling when folded. The Fold8 uses a 4:3 screen ratio for content viewing. The Flip8 emphasizes portability with a compact folded size and a cover display.

Foldable phones emerge as small tablet alternative, but fall short for work use

Foldable phones are emerging as an alternative to small tablets used on the move, but they still have limits as full replacements for work devices, an assessment said. As book-style foldables offer larger screens while folding to smartphone size, they can deliver tablet-like use with easier mobile connectivity under an existing smartphone plan. The assessment cited constraints including multitasking space, accessory use, battery burden, high prices, durability issues and incomplete software optimization for larger displays.
