US police tighten security over smartglasses vulnerability concerns
U.S. police and federal agencies are tightening security over Meta smartglasses with built-in cameras, citing new risks at detention and police facilities. The New York Police Department\'s counterterrorism bureau flagged Ray-Ban Meta smartglasses as a security and counterintelligence threat and ordered stricter screening of glasses entering inmate cells. A TikTok video filmed inside a South Carolina detention facility has also been cited. Warnings have spread to DHS teams and fusion centers, while ICE has banned wearing smartglasses in federal workspaces.

U.S. allows private firms to join offensive cyber operations for first time
The U.S. government has for the first time allowed some private companies to take part in offensive cyber operations targeting international criminal groups and hackers. The White House said it will use private-sector capabilities to counter cyber threats aimed at Americans, including ransomware and financial fraud. Participating firms may conduct surveillance and disruption activities but are not allowed to carry out retaliation hacking independently. Operations must be overseen by the federal government and approved by Justice and Homeland Security officials.

Critics say buying such data may bypass legal procedures. ARC said the program aimed to prevent crime and bolster national security.
