Intel buys ASML high-NA EUV lithography tool barred from China
Dutch chip equipment maker ASML has started shipping its next-generation high-NA EUV lithography tools to chip plants, with each unit costing $400 million. The system can achieve 8-nanometer resolution and draw finer circuits than existing EUV tools. Intel is the leading early customer after bringing in its first tool in 2024 for assembly and testing. Cost and U.S.-driven export curbs on sales to China are shaping adoption.

U.S. claims ASML EUV tools in China; ASML denies any sales
The U.S. government has raised the possibility that ASML’s extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography equipment may have been brought into China. ASML rejected the claim, saying EUV tools have never been in China. The dispute intensified after U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick conveyed concerns to ASML executives. U.S. officials say they have indications parts and transport gear went to China, but have not shown evidence of a complete EUV system there.

China produces photonic chip wafers without ASML equipment, cutting costs to one tenth
China\'s semiconductor equipment company Prinano (PRINANO) said it has succeeded in making photonic chip wafers without ASML\'s deep ultraviolet lithography tools, using its own nanoimprint lithography technology. The company said it produced 8-inch wafers and could cut manufacturing costs to about one-tenth of conventional methods. The announcement draws attention as export controls restrict China\'s access to advanced lithography equipment, though some analysts urged caution due to undisclosed yield, throughput and mass-production timelines.
