Samsung Electronics said on Sept. 9 it signed a strategic partnership with French artificial intelligence company Mistral AI to jointly develop an in-house AI model specialised in semiconductor design and manufacturing. The model will combine semiconductor technology and manufacturing data accumulated by Samsung’s DS division with Mistral AI’s high-efficiency model technology. The model will be deployed step by step for data analysis, defect prediction and process optimisation, and will run on Samsung’s on-premise infrastructure.

Conflicts inside and around Samsung Electronics\' unions are growing. The DX division union ran a Times Square ad criticising workforce efficiency moves and plans an open-ended rally from Sept. 18 outside Chairman Jay Y. Lee\'s home. Separately, police sent six people including a union chair to prosecutors over alleged creation of a member list. New labour ministry guidelines also narrow what can be treated as a legal labour dispute, limiting unions\' leverage.
