Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix DRAM operating margin nears 80 percent as memory boom holds firm
Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix are expected to post record quarterly results as their combined second-quarter operating profit nears 150 trillion won. Samsung reported preliminary operating profit of 89.4 trillion won, while SK Hynix is seen earning in the 60 trillion won range. Analysts estimate most of Samsung’s profit came from memory despite losses in non-memory units and large bonus provisions. Brokers expect memory supply tightness, HBM demand and AI-driven growth to support results.

iPhone 18 Pro Max parts cost could rise by up to $300, report says
Parts costs for Apple’s next flagship iPhone 18 Pro Max 1TB model could rise by up to nearly $300 from the current generation, according to an estimate. A Counterpoint Research report compared the iPhone 17 Pro Max 1TB bill of materials with projected iPhone 18 Pro Max 1TB component costs, citing higher NAND and DRAM prices, a 2-nanometer system-on-chip and advanced packaging. It also forecast storage-tier price increases to protect margins.

Nvidia stumbles in market it helped build as shares fall 15 percent while memory stocks triple
Nvidia has been seen as a top beneficiary of the artificial intelligence investment boom but has struggled in recent months, with its shares down 15 percent from a May peak, according to Bloomberg. Over the same period, Micron’s market value has nearly tripled as memory becomes a new bottleneck in data-centre expansion. Spot prices for DRAM have surged since 2023, while hourly spot prices for Nvidia H100 compute have fallen over the past year.
