BMW iX5 to launch this summer with 144 kWh battery
BMW plans to equip its iX5 electric SUV, due to launch this summer, with a 144 kWh battery. The usable capacity for the U.S. iX5 xDrive60 is set at 144 kWh, while the European model is about 141 kWh, making it BMW’s largest battery among current EVs. BMW has not disclosed official range. The company is also updating suspension and using cell-to-pack technology, while testing in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

Third-party device restores Apple CarPlay in GM EVs for $199
A third-party device has emerged to restore Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in General Motors electric vehicles where the features were removed. Startup EV Play has launched the EV Play LT for $199 and a higher-end EV Play Max for $425, offering additional streaming and console connectivity. The company acknowledges GM could disable the function through future software updates, leaving the durability of the solution uncertain.

GM tops 1 billion miles on Super Cruise, targets hands-off, eyes-off driving by 2028
General Motors plans to equip the 2028 Cadillac Escalade IQ with Level 3 autonomous driving features, aiming to commercialise highway driving that lets the driver take hands and eyes off. GM says Super Cruise has surpassed 1 billion miles of cumulative driving and is available on about 750,000 vehicles, covering about 700,000 miles of roads in North America. The next-generation system adds lidar, expands testing and increases AI use in software development.
