Cardano Foundation says EU should apply existing financial laws to DeFi and staking

The Cardano Foundation opposed a separate European Union regulatory approach targeting decentralised finance and staking. In a submission to the European Commission, it argued that existing financial laws should be applied based on the function and risks of activities, rather than the underlying technology. It said regulators should distinguish direct participation in decentralised networks from intermediary financial services that hold or control users’ assets, and warned that overlapping rules and differing national interpretations could increase uncertainty for crypto firms.

UK FCA to revise DeFi and crypto regulatory standards ahead of 2027 framework

Britain\'s Financial Conduct Authority has launched a formal consultation on standards for decentralised finance firms to tackle money laundering and financial crime, and on the scope of exemptions from some crypto regulation. The process aims to clarify detailed criteria for applying rules to DeFi and stablecoins as the UK moves toward a new crypto regulatory framework. The new regime is due to take effect from October 2027, with registration and adjustments required by Feb. 28, 2027.
