Blockchain.com, a British cryptocurrency financial services company, has launched options trading. A co-chief executive officer said the cryptocurrency market has entered an institution-led "crypto spring" phase.

Bitcoin Magazine reported on Oct. 21 that Blockchain.com co-CEO Lane Kasselman (레인 카셀먼) made the remarks as he explained the political and regulatory environment ahead of U.S. midterm elections, the influence of institutional money and the company's business strategy.

Kasselman said institutions are holding the initiative in the cryptocurrency market. The options launch can also be seen as a move to expand into derivatives beyond spot trading and wallet services. Public materials did not present early performance or specific trading volumes.

He also said bipartisan support for the cryptocurrency industry is expanding in U.S. politics. Kasselman said the digital asset industry has secured its strongest bipartisan support to date in Congress. He said the industry's growth momentum should continue regardless of which party takes the initiative.

Regulatory work remains a task. Kasselman said that even as legislation on the Clarity bill has stalled, more than 30 rulemaking efforts are under way at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). He said that separate from federal legislation, regulators are continuing to refine detailed rules. He also pointed to state money-transmitter licensing systems as an obstacle to business expansion.

On its wallet-service strategy, he stressed differences in user preferences by country. Kasselman said preferences for self-custody wallets and custodial wallets vary across countries. Blockchain.com is continuing a strategy that provides wallet and trading functions together in consideration of these differences.

The company is also aiming to serve as a liquidity layer in the tokenisation market, linking trading, payments and asset transfers. It also identified payment methods for artificial intelligence agents as a future key issue. Kasselman suggested that AI agents could settle transaction payments in stablecoins or bitcoin.

The comments show Blockchain.com's view on its options launch, an institution-led market reshaping, regulatory work, and an expansion of tokenisation and AI-based payment infrastructure. Key points to watch include how legislative delays could affect business expansion and whether institutional money will expand into the derivatives and tokenisation markets.
