Korea to merge Kobaco and KCMF after bill clears parliamentary committee
A bill to merge the Korea Broadcast Advertising Corp (Kobaco) and the Korea Communications Media Foundation (KCMF) to create the Korea Broadcasting Media Communications Promotion Institute has passed the National Assembly’s Legislation and Judiciary Committee. The committee approved amendments including a revision to the Framework Act on Broadcasting and Communications Development. Some broadcasting, media and communications projects scattered across related agencies under the Ministry of Science and ICT would be transferred to the new body.

Broadcasting Media Telecommunications Commission cuts YTN, Yonhap News TV approval period by 3 months over CEO recommendation committee
South Korea\'s Broadcasting Media Telecommunications Commission imposed a three-month cut to the approval validity period for YTN and Yonhap News TV for failing to form a CEO recommendation committee required under the Broadcasting Act. The commission ordered both broadcasters to rectify the violations by Oct. 10. It said earlier corrective orders issued in May were not met by the July deadline and noted the violations have persisted for about a year since the law took effect.

Korea broadcast media commission renews licences for 13 terrestrial and community radio stations
South Korea\'s Broadcast Media Communications Commission approved licence renewals for 13 terrestrial and community radio stations run by 11 operators, including KBS, MBC and OBS. Eight stations that scored at least 700 points in an evaluation received five-year renewals, while five stations that scored 650 to under 700 points were granted four-year terms. The commission said the review considered evaluation results, viewer opinions and views from related agencies.
