Lee Hae-min proposes AI basic society bill, levy on companies replacing jobs
Lee Hae-min (이해민), a lawmaker from the Rebuilding Korea Party, proposed legislation to respond to employment shocks from AI adoption, including a levy on companies that significantly replace jobs or tasks. Her office said she submitted three bills, including an AI basic society bill and related amendments. The package sets national strategies and five-year plans, provides rights to retraining and livelihood support, and creates a fund financed by the levy, with possible reductions or exemptions.

Tmoney, Samsung Electronics launch Samsung Wallet Tmoney K-Pass
Samsung Wallet users can now register a Tmoney transit card with K-Pass to receive public transport fare refunds without obtaining a separate K-Pass affiliated card. Tmoney and Samsung Electronics launched the service in Samsung Wallet on Monday. Tmoney also added an app-based host card emulation postpaid transit card feature, expanding use to eSIM and budget carrier users. An event runs through Sept. 30, offering points and coffee to first-time users.

Broadcasting Media Communications Committee releases 2024 broadcast assessment; KBS1, MBN top scores by platform
South Korea\'s Broadcasting Media Communications Committee approved the 2024 broadcast assessment results for 371 stations operated by 153 broadcasters at a plenary meeting on July 22. The results will be reflected in broadcaster re-licensing and re-approval reviews. KBS1 recorded the highest score among national terrestrial TV channels, while MBN ranked top among comprehensive programming channel operators. The committee also approved the 2025 assessment basic plan and will disclose detailed results on its website.
