Samsung Wallet users can now receive transportation fare refund benefits by registering a Tmoney transit card with K-Pass without obtaining a separate K-Pass affiliated card. An app-stored postpaid transit card function has also been added, expanding use to eSIM and budget carrier users.

Tmoney said on Monday it has officially launched the 'Tmoney K-Pass' service in Samsung Wallet in collaboration with Samsung Electronics.

Users can issue a Tmoney transit card in Samsung Wallet, then tap the 'Register in K-Pass' button to register the transit card number in the K-Pass app. There is no need to issue an additional K-Pass-only card.

Tmoney added a host card emulation (HCE) postpaid transit card function, which uses app storage, to its existing physical universal subscriber identity module (USIM) storage method. As a result, smartphone users who use eSIMs and budget carrier customers can also register and use a Tmoney postpaid transit card in Samsung Wallet.

If users top up Tmoney with Samsung Wallet Money, the top-up fee is waived. Points cannot be used when topping up, and a fee may be charged when refunding the remaining balance.

An event to mark the service launch will also run through Sept. 30. During the period, customers who use a bus or subway for the first time with 'Tmoney K-Pass' registered in Samsung Wallet will receive 3,000 Samsung Wallet points and 2 cups of MegaCoffee Americano.

K-Pass refunds part of transportation costs if users take public transport at least 15 times a month. The basic plan returns a certain percentage of the amount used, while the 'Everyone's Card' fixed-fee plan refunds spending that exceeds a benchmark amount set by user type and mode of transport.

Young-joo Kim (김영주), an executive director in Tmoney's payment business division, said, "Samsung Wallet Tmoney K-Pass is a service designed to simplify the public transport process from transit card registration to fare refunds." He added, "We will expand support so users can conveniently access transportation cost-saving benefits."
