ByteDance in talks with MediaTek on custom AI chips as Nvidia access tightens

ByteDance is in late-stage talks with Taiwan\'s MediaTek to secure custom AI chips for data centres, as U.S. export restrictions make it harder to obtain Nvidia\'s top processors. The talks involve application-specific integrated circuits, though no order volume has been set and no contract has been signed. If agreed, ByteDance would become MediaTek\'s second major ASIC customer after Google. ByteDance is also weighing a sharp rise in capital spending this year and has secured a large loan.

Australia to expand regulation of crypto-settled derivatives, limit leverage and losses

Australia\'s securities regulator is moving to apply leverage caps and loss limits to some derivatives settled in cryptocurrency. The Australian Securities and Investments Commission proposed amendments to extend consumer protections under contracts for difference rules to certain digital-asset settlement contracts. Some fixed-maturity crypto futures and options would remain outside the CFD regime. ASIC will take submissions until Nov. 9, with final rules potentially adjusted after industry feedback.

Semifive signs 70.3 billion won contract to develop AI inference accelerator with U.S. fabless firm

Semifive said on Monday it signed a contract with a U.S. AI fabless company to develop a next-generation AI inference accelerator. The deal is worth about 70.3 billion won ($52 million) and marks its first spec handoff project secured in the North American market. The company said it was its largest single contract and outlined plans for tape-out in the first half of 2027 and mass production from 2028.
