Broadcast Media Telecommunications Commission sets 297.7 billion won budget, expanding AI and media sovereignty investment

South Korea’s Broadcast Media Telecommunications Commission has drafted a 2027 budget and fund management plan totalling 297.7 billion won, up 13.2 percent from a year earlier. It will focus spending on supporting sustainable development and innovation in the broadcasting and media ecosystem, building a safe and reliable digital environment, and strengthening public media sovereignty. The plan includes new funding for AI training data, transparency initiatives and expanded media education and accessibility.

Amazon analysis finds 63% of religion and faith books suspected of being AI-written

A review of recently published religion and faith books on Amazon found about 63% were likely written by AI, according to research by AI detection firm Originality.ai. The company analysed 2,034 titles and classified 1,272 as having a high likelihood of AI authorship. The share varied by category, from 78% in a witchcraft-related category to 22% for Satanism. Researchers cautioned the figures reflect probabilities, and noted limits of AI detection tools.

MSIT to overhaul AI Hub to cut duplication, improve quality of public AI training data

South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT will build a government-wide integrated management system to address duplicated construction and weak quality control of public-sector AI training data. The ministry will overhaul the current AI Hub into an integrated provision system so public institutions can check in advance whether planned datasets overlap with existing ones. It will also introduce pilot operations this year and distribute quality and build-use guides to ministries, local governments and public bodies.
