ETRI expands open source consultative body across government-funded research institutes

South Korea\'s Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute said on Monday it will expand the operation of its open source consultative body to respond to complex risks including licensing disputes, security vulnerabilities and AI training data copyright issues. ETRI, which led the launch of the consultative body among government-funded research institutes in August 2022, said it will broaden it from this year to spread governance success cases and strengthen cooperation linked to national mid- to long-term science and technology policy.

Amazon\'s Mechanical Turk halts new customer sign-ups, effectively winding down

Amazon Web Services will stop registering new customers for its crowdsourcing service Mechanical Turk, which has operated for more than 20 years. Launched in 2005, Mechanical Turk is a marketplace where users post tasks that are hard to automate, such as CAPTCHA verification and sentiment analysis, for others to bid on and complete. Amazon says existing users will not be affected. Reports said the service is in maintenance and may be nearing closure.

Toss builds AI training data reward model with Poseidon

Viva Republica, operator of Toss, is building an AI training data economy model with blockchain-based AI data infrastructure company Poseidon. Toss said on Thursday it will cooperate with Poseidon on a user-participation AI data business. Poseidon will provide blockchain-based infrastructure to record and manage data contribution history and value. The firms plan to launch Poseidon’s user-participation data contribution service Numo on the Toss mini app.
