Amazon first discloses data centre water use at 9.4 billion litres a year

Amazon for the first time disclosed the amount of water it used to run data centres worldwide, saying it consumed about 2.5 billion gallons, or roughly 9.5 billion litres, last year. The company said its data centres used an average of 0.12 litres of water per kilowatt hour of electricity, and that total water use fell 2 percent from a year earlier. Critics note the figure excludes indirect water use at power plants and during construction.

SpaceX alumni bet on solar and batteries as AI data centre power demand surges

As power demand from AI data centres surges, founders with SpaceX backgrounds have entered a new power supply business combining solar power and batteries. U.S. energy startup Ambrosia Energy is developing a system targeting AI data centres, aiming to supply stable 24-hour power. It targets a power cost of about $100 per MWh and says plants can be built within 12 months of signing contracts. The company has begun building its first plant in West Texas.

OpenAI\'s Sam Altman to visit Samsung Electronics and Kakao, focus on expanding ChatGPT cooperation

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman (샘 알트먼) will visit South Korea on June 14 and leave on the evening of June 15, visiting Samsung Electronics and Kakao over a one-night, two-day trip. He will hold a DX Insight Talk event with Samsung’s DX division employees in Suwon on June 15. Afterward, he will meet Kakao CEO Jeong Shin-a (정신아) in Pangyo to discuss additional cooperation, Kakao said.
