K-AI chips put to the test as global AI startups step up push into South Korea

South Korean neural processing unit makers are teaming up with domestic cloud companies to target the AI inference market, testing whether they can secure a foothold beyond Nvidia’s barriers. Samsung SDS launched an NPU-as-a-service offering on its Samsung Cloud Platform based on FuriosaAI’s second-generation chip. Rebellions is also partnering with KT Cloud and Gabia. Foreign AI startups are stepping up moves into Korea, including Genspark and China’s Kling AI.

Meta adds \'Muse Spark 1.1\' to Meta AI, Facebook to introduce video verification and seller app

Meta has begun offering its large language model \'Muse Spark 1.1\' to general users by applying it to the Meta AI chatbot. With the update, Facebook will also introduce the account verification feature Facebook Verified, which authenticates users through video selfies and adds a check mark badge to profiles, and a seller app called Seller. Meta plans to launch the three features in some markets first and then expand them sequentially.

All Koreans to use \'AI for All\', but will performance be judged by user numbers?

As South Korea moves to roll out its \'AI for All\' project to provide AI services to the entire population, concerns are growing that standards for verifying performance are unclear. The evaluation framework relies on metrics proposed by bidders, including targets for user numbers and token use. The ministry plans to pick a company or consortium by September and start a beta by late September, with a nationwide chatbot launch due in December.
