[DigitalToday reporter Choi Jae-won] Elon Musk (일론 머스크) said he intends to rename SpaceX’s AI business unit, SpaceXAI, to SpaceXSI. The move appears to follow U.S. President Donald Trump’s adoption of the term SI, or Super Intelligence, instead of AI, or Artificial Intelligence.

On Oct. 5, Japanese online media outlet GigaZine and Reuters reported that Musk responded on Oct. 4 on social media platform X (Twitter) after a user asked whether SpaceXAI might be changed to SpaceXSI. Musk replied, "We will change it that way." He added, "SpaceX is a super intelligence company," showing his intention behind the new name.

SpaceXAI is an AI business unit that SpaceX brought in after acquiring Musk’s AI company xAI in February. xAI has been responsible for developing the generative AI chatbot Grok and business related to X. After the acquisition, xAI continues to operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of SpaceX.

The planned renaming came alongside a U.S. government shift in terminology. On Sept. 29, Trump signed an executive order titled "Inaugurating the Era of Super Intelligence." The U.S. administration was instructed to use the term SI instead of AI in official letters, websites, reports and policy documents, within the limits permitted by law.

Trump previously argued in a speech to the U.N. General Assembly that "SI expresses the capabilities of technology more accurately than AI." Musk also posted on X to the effect that SI is better than AI, and then confirmed the renaming plan.

It is not known when SpaceXAI will actually change its name to SpaceXSI. Musk did not disclose the timing or detailed procedures, and the company’s official website and X account were still using the SpaceXAI name at the time of the announcement.
