K-AI chips put to the test as global AI startups step up push into South Korea

South Korean neural processing unit makers are teaming up with domestic cloud companies to target the AI inference market, testing whether they can secure a foothold beyond Nvidia’s barriers. Samsung SDS launched an NPU-as-a-service offering on its Samsung Cloud Platform based on FuriosaAI’s second-generation chip. Rebellions is also partnering with KT Cloud and Gabia. Foreign AI startups are stepping up moves into Korea, including Genspark and China’s Kling AI.

Samsung SDS allies with Anthropic to accelerate Claude-based enterprise AI business

Samsung SDS said on Friday it signed a strategic partnership with global AI company Anthropic to expand in the enterprise AI market. It said the companies will combine technology and industry know-how to strengthen their push into the Korean AI market and support corporate customers’ AI innovation. The partnership includes jointly exploring new business opportunities, training applied AI engineers for building and operating Claude, and providing Claude Enterprise to Samsung affiliates.

Cognition acquires text-based AI assistant Fork, adds \'friend-like\' chat to Devin

Cognition, an AI coding startup, has acquired Fork, a text-based AI assistant operated by The Interaction Company of California. Cognition plans to incorporate Fork’s conversational style and personality into its coding AI service Devin. Fork will use Cognition’s models and infrastructure to improve response speed and stability. Fork is positioned as a friend-like chat service that replies with slang and humor. It launched in March 2026 and runs on iMessage, SMS, Telegram and WhatsApp.
